Beautiful hair starts with proper nutrition. Your hair is primarily made of protein, so ensure you’re getting enough in your diet. Lean meats, fish, beans, and eggs are excellent sources. Don’t forget about omega-3 fatty acids, which may promote hair health. One study in 2015, involving 120 healthy women, demonstrated that omega-3 supplementation improved hair density, diameter, and reduced hair loss.
Wash Wisely
It might surprise you to learn that one of the most common mistakes is washing too often. Shampooing too frequently can strip your hair of its natural oils. How often should you wash? Well, that depends on your hair type and lifestyle. If you have oily hair, you may need to wash daily. For those with dry hair, 2-3 times a week is usually sufficient. When choosing a shampoo, be mindful of harsh ingredients. Sulfates, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS), are common in many shampoos but can be drying and irritating for some people according to this study.
Condition Correctly
Conditioning is crucial for maintaining soft, manageable hair. Apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair, avoiding the scalp. Leave it on for 2-3 minutes before rinsing. Use a deep conditioning treatment once a week if you need a little extra.
Be Gentle with Wet Hair
Wet hair is incredibly fragile. After washing, gently pat your hair dry with a towel instead of rubbing vigorously. The kind of comb you use is important as well. A wide-tooth comb is best for detangling, starting from the ends and working your way up.

While coloring and chemical treatments can be fun, they can also be damaging. Try to space out these treatments and always follow up with extra conditioning. If you do color your hair, stay within three shades of your natural color to minimize damage.
Don’t Forget Your Scalp
